The North East Bangladeshi Awards (NEBA) was launched in May 2022 to
recognize the exceptional achievements and contributions of British Bangladeshi individuals, communities, and businesses.

NEBA hopes to inspire and motivate British Bangladeshis to be proud of our identity, cultures, and roots by celebrating our exceptional achievements and contributions in shaping our towns and cities.

NEBA 2022 was launched with Newcastle's and the region's first Bangladeshi Lord Mayor in its 800-year history in Cllr Habib Rahman, and NEBA 2023 was celebrated with another history-making Bangladeshi Mayor of Carlisle, Councillor Abdul Harid, just two examples of Bangladeshi inspirations.

NEBA's aim is to acknowledge and celebrate the contributions of the British Bangladeshi community to British society. We hope to inspire and motivate British Bangladeshis to be proud of our identity, culture, and roots by recognising our exceptional achievements and contributions in shaping our towns, cities and communities.

NEBA is not solely a 'business' award. We recognise a myriad of community achievements such as “Bangladeshi Person of the Year”, the” Bangladeshi Women in Leadership”, “Lifetime Achievement Award”, the “Public and Voluntary Sector Awards” and much more. However, the exceptional achievements and contributions of the Bangladeshi Curry industry to the UK economy must also be recognized and given a platform. As a result, we are proud to recognise, celebrate and present awards across a variety of categories to ensure we effectively recognise Bangladeshi excellence across a great deal of domains.

NEBA will grow stronger, even better and more inclusive if the Bangladeshi
community engages with NEBA, submits nominations, and encourages others to make nominations in each of the categories at the annual NEBA. We urge the Bangladeshi community to get behind us and provide constructive views and opinions to help shape NEBA the way you wish to see it grow!
